Partnership for New Life (PNL) is a nonprofit making and nongovernmental organisation established in 1999. It is situated in Butwal Municipality of Butwal. With mission to serve the physically disabled people, it started its services from Butwal Municipality. It is servicing for the physically disabled and leprosy affected people. It is working in three districts of Nepal i.e. in Rupandehi, Nawalparashi and Kapilvastu.

 

Partnership for New Life works on Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach. It has been working for physical rehabilitation, capacity building, raising awareness and income generation.

 

Its main target groups are physically disabled and leprosy affected people. The target groups are disabled and leprosy affected people’s family, skin patients and general people too in some programme.

 

 

Vision:

To create society which respects the rights and welfare of people with disabilities and with the involvement of disabled people, family and local community to develop their ability providing equal opportunities to make them citizens who can contribute to society.

Target Groups:

People with physical disabilities and leprosy affected people are the primary target group of PNL and rehabilitating them physically is main objective. PNL has been providing a home visit service and weekly counseling service to people with disabilities. The family members of the primary target groups are the secondary target group. Especially the family members of people with disabilities are included in the capacity building programme, vocational skills, the income generation programme etc because it helps to people with disabilities too. Therefore the family members of the people with disabilities are also involved in certain programmes so that the disabled people’s family member too can get benefit. Whereas the target group in social communication are general people and in sustainability of programme, the target group are any Community Based Organisations.

 

How Programme is implemented?

For the rehabilitation service of disabled people, PNL is making home visit for which field staff visit the disabled people in their own home to provide the physiotherapy and other primary rehabilitation services. To provide the service to more people, PNL is running the weekly counselling center (it is a center where once in a week primary rehabilitation services are provided). The disabled people of the VDCs can come to center once in a week where our staffs provide primary rehabilitation therapy.  These centers are run in partnership with local organisation wherever it is possible. In the same way to reach the more people with disabilities, camps are run in the remote villages. People who need operation and advance services are referred to different hospitals.

 

For the leprosy service the people affected from the leprosy visit at PNL where they get diagnosis and medicine. The complicated ulcer, bone infection and reaction cases are referred to Green Pasture Hospital of International Nepal Fellowship. For the early detection, the family members are checked up for the leprosy. To make sure the leprosy patients are taking medicine regularly, the field visit at the health office is made where they are referred for the regular medicines.

 

To build the capacity of the disabled people and to uplift the economic, the group of such people and their family is formed in every VDCs and Municipalities which is called PG. The groups are involved by PNL in trainings and different activities for the capacity building. The groups are provided with small amount of money for the revolving fund and to form the self help group.

 

To aware the people of disabilities and for the rights of the disabled, awareness raising programmes are conducted in the local communities, schools, clubs etc.
