Disabilty Camp at Benimanipur
Date: 2nd May 2008 (Baisakh 20, 2065)

PNL, DRCN (Kawasoti), Apanga Punasthapana Samiti (Benimanipur) and Benimanipur VDC, jointly organised a disability camp at Benimanupur, Nawalparshi on 15th Baisakh 2065 (27th April 2008).

The objective of the camp was to screen the people with the physical disabilities and provide the physical rehabilitation services. The people with disabilities were screen to find the intervention for the rehabilitation by surgery, medical treatment, physiotherapy and providing assistive devices.

The camp identified 56 children and people with disabilities (28 males and 27 females). Among them 9 got the crutches. The 9 disabled cases were referred to PNL and other places for the treatment.

The camp also checked the skin cases who were in the camp. 22 people were checked the skin and 1 leprosy case was identified and 2 more were suspected cases who were referred to PNL for the confirmation.








Orientation about disabilities in Gangolia and Makrahar VDC
Date: 25th April 2008

PNL conducted orientation on disability with the objective to aware the people about the disaibilities issues, rights, rehabilitation and resources mobilization for the disabled people in the VDC in March 2008. The orientation was organised in the local level in the each wards i.e. 9 wards of Gangolia and Makrahar VDCs of Rupandehi with the local CBOs. The participants of the orientation were mostly female i.e. more than 60% were females. In the Gangolia VDC in 9 orientation program, 396 people took part. In the same way 9 orientation program on disabilities was conducted at Makrahar VDC in which 406 people had participated. Here are the some outcomes after the orientation program:

·    Dillip Pun (Makrahar-6, Bhu. Pu. Sainik, l) says, “I was unknown about it after attending the  orientation  program,   I have learnt that I  have to  provide opportunity for disable people according to their skill in every development works without it development work will be incomplete . So I will make voice about it in related organization and community.  It will be a service for humankind”

 

·     Ram Chandra Subedi  ( Gangolia-4, Gangolia) after attending  orientation program visited Mahila Bikas Kendra for disability Identity Card. Now he is busy in collecting related papers for the identity cards. The Mahila Bikas  kendra’ staff will visit at the local level for  issuing the cards. Ram Chandra Subedi has also been visiting the VDC for the budget for the disabled people.

 

·    Durga karki of Gangolia-2, Piprahiya (mother of a disabled child: Manika Karki) after attending orientation program visited Gangolia VDC office for disabled budget. The VDC secretary has formed the disability budget utilization committee and Durga Karki has been appointed as a member in the committee.

 

·    Yam Bdr Somai Magar (Makrahar-9) after attending orientation program visited Makrahar VDC office for disabled's budget. He and his team collect data of disable people of Makrahar VDC and divided this budget in individual disabled, correction of post burn contracture of hand and physiotherapy. It has made him happy.








Varpai writing training at Gorunsinghey for disabled's orgnaisation
Date: 4th March 2008

One day training on Varpai and other legal document writing was organised by PNL as part of capacity building of the disabled people and the organisation of the disabled people on 1st April 2008 (19-12-2064). The training was organised at Gorusinghey, Jayanagar VDC of Kapilvastu and participated by disabled of two organisations i.e. Samudaya and disabled rehabilitation, and Naya Bihani Sawalamban Samuha. The total of 16 members i.e. 8 males and 8 females had taken part in the training.








Varpai writing Training at Parroha for the disabled's organisation
Date: 4th April 2008

As part of the capacity building of the disabled people and their self help group provided a one day training on writing varpai and other documents on 28th March 2008 (2064.12.15). The objective of the training was to make the disabled and their organisation competent to write the varpai. The training was organised at Parroha VDC, Rupandehi and participated by the members of the two disabled's organisations i.e. Apanga Jiwanko Paila ma Sahakarya and Semlar Avivawak Sangh. The training was participated by 19 persons i.e. 10 male and 9 females.








Disability camp at Lumbini
Date: 26th March 2008

PNL, Apanga Punasthapako lagi Sahavagita (a disabled's organisation) and Lumbini VDC at the Lumbini VDC premises (Rupandehi), conducted one day disability camp to identify the disabled and provided the rehabilitation services on 25th March 2008 (2064.12.12). The camp was attended by 52 disabled children and people and among them 41 were children and 11 adults. The camp was visited by children/people with or affected by CP, clubfoot, hydrocephalus, knock knee, amputation, post fracture, ontogenesis imperfecta, mentally retarded, muscular dystrophy, polio etc. The identified cases were referred to nearest center of the PNL i.e. in Tenuhawa VDC for the one who need regular physiotherapy, surgery and other treatments. PNL will support in the rehabilitation to the disabled people/children by locally providing services or referring to different hospitals or centers.








Workshop on legal issues for Leprosy affected women
Date: 25th March 2008

PNL and Association for IDEA, Kathmandu, jointly organised two days women empowerment to leprosy affected person in legal on 23rd and 24th March 2008 (10th and 11th Chaitra 2064) at Hotel New Era, Butwal. The workshop was attended by 30 women from Rupandehi, Nawalparashi, Kapilvastu, Palpa and Gulmi districts. 








Proposal writing training for organisations of the disabled
Date: 18th March 2008

PNL organised three days (11th to 13th March 2008) proposal writing training for the 14 organisations of the people with disabilities of Rupandehi, Nawalparashi and Kapilvastu by PNL for the capacity building of the organisations. The organisation would be able to write the proposal after the training especially to tape the resources (budget provided) by the local government (VDC) for the disability program. The training was attended by 25 members of the organisations.








Report Writing Training for Disabled's Organisations
Date: 20th March 2008

PNL organised two days i.e.  18th and 19th March 2008 (2064.12.05-06) report writing training for the 11 organisations of the people with disabilities of Rupandehi, Nawalparashi and Kapilvastu for the capacity building of the organisations. As per the plan of the PNL to make these organisations an independent and able organisation through the capacity building, PNL provided the training so that each organisation can write better report for their organisations. The training was participated by 6 females and 12 males disabled and guardians of respective organisations.
